Position: Theater Director - Youth Summer Theater Camp

Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour

Application Deadline: 5/8/2024

2024 Season: June 10-21, 2024

Rehearsals: 9am-3pm: Mon-Fri June 10-14, Mon-Thurs 17-20 

Performance: Friday, June 21st at 6:30pm 

Foothills is seeking a Director for the Foothills Youth Theater summer camp. This position is responsible for the overall direction of the full-length youth camp and performance including acting instruction, blocking, casting, and rehearsals. This position works under the direction of the Arts & Events Assistant and will work as a team with the stage manager and theater assistants. Must be available for the entire camp process including auditions, rehearsals and performances.

  • Responsible for all aspects of directing full-length productions including the overall vision; holding auditions and selecting the cast/assigning parts; running rehearsals and coordinating all staff and volunteers to put on the final product. Must be hands on at each rehearsal and work with every level; adapting direction techniques to meet the needs of participants.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively between the team - including artistic staff, outside contractors, volunteers etc. Utilize any support staff including Arts & Events Assistant or Stage Manager to initiate and organize these communications.
  • Assigns nonperforming students and volunteers to backstage production tasks, including but not limited to constructing, painting, moving scenery, operating stage light, and sound equipment. May direct activities of students involved in constructing, painting, and lighting scenery.
  • Responsible for working within the production budget, clearly communicating set, prop and costume needs in advance to the Arts & Events Assistant.
  • Be prepared, creative and energized when directing.
  • Responsible for all communication between actors, parents and staff. Manage conflict among volunteers and/or staff; enforce safety and program rules, policies, and regulations.
  • Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Attend and participate in production meetings, staff meetings, training's, and orientations

Experience and Skills

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Drama, Theater, Fine Arts, Performing Arts, and\or Minimum of two (2) years experience directing or assistant directing full length productions.
  • Experience supervising youth and/or musical direction of youth preferred.
  • Professional experience in other theatrical areas of production (lighting, sound, set, etc) preferred.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES & OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

CPR/AED and First Aid certifications preferred.

 M ATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED :

Must have knowledge of stage performance, stage-directing experience, and the ability to successfully work with youth and/or adults.

  WORKING ENVIRONMENT :

95% of the work is performed outdoors, working in a park environment with frequent interruptions and distractions. Working outdoors with various temperatures, noisy environment and background noise.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Must be able to demonstrate and perform the techniques unique to varying art disciplines. Must be able to push, pull or balance. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift/move a maximum of 25 pounds unassisted, and lift/move a maximum of 50 pounds with assistance. Vision requirements include: near acuity, far acuity, depth perception and color vision. Must be able to frequently sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, exhibit manual dexterity and the ability to handle objects. Requires the ability to communicate verbally with both children and adults. The ability to talk and hear via the telephone, e-mail, and through face-to-face communication is needed.
